Lets talk to Venus

 When we look at Venus in the evening sky we think have image of the "The Birth of Venus" painting by Botticelli.

Venus the second planet from the Sun and named after the Roman God of Love. Venus orbits the Sun every 224.7 Earth days. It has a rotation period of 243 Earth days,. The naming of the features on Venus after the names of female deities. Over the next few posts we will explore the stories behind the names. Feature Types 

In planetary nomenclature, a chasma /ˈkæzmə is a deep, elongated, steep-sided depression. There are 122 feature of this type identified in the solar system. 

A corona is an oval shaped feature.

A linea feature is a dark or bright elongate marking, may be curved or straight

Heng O Chasma and Corona 

 In Chinese Mythology Heng-O was the mother of the twelve moons (which represented each month of the year). At the beginning of the each month,   Heng-O washed her children at the western side of the world.  Each moon, one after each other would travel on a month long journey to reach the eastern side of the world.

Heng-o was married to Devine Archer Yi who had killed Heng-o brother and spared the life of the moon godess.  However she fled to the moon after stealing a herb of immortality from her husband that grew on the soil in the western Paradis. In the moon, Heng-0o became a toad. 

Badb Linea

In Irish mythology, the Badb is the goddess of war that takes the form of a crow. She is known to cause fear and confusion among soldiers to shift the direction of battle to her favoured side.  Badb may also appear prior to a battle to foreshadow the extent of the carnage to come, or to predict the death of a notable person (leading to a comparison with the banshee). She was also regularly depicted as an active participant in warfare.  During the First Battle of Mag Tuired (from the book of invasions), Badb—along with her sisters, Macha and Morrígan—fights on the side of the Tuatha Dé Danann.  Using their magic, the three sisters cause fear and confusion among the Fir Bolg army.
